Well, we’ve made it to the first weekend of National Novel Writers Month, and I said I wasn’t going to do any writing on the weekends. I was/am going to focus on doing the majority of the writing Monday-Friday because my weekends are full of family time, moving, and church related activities. However, I am not the only one on this NaNoWriMo journey, so I wanted to see how you all were doing, are you reaching your writing goals for the most part? Don’t get discouraged we are only on day 4.
Dabbling in NaNoWriMo
So the other reason I wanted to hop on here was the other day, Thursday, in between writing and trying to get my word count up I was playing around on Dabble. I like that you can adjust your goals, on Dabble as well as monitor your progress. I thought I would show a couple screenshots I did, now keep in mind these are my word counts from two days ago. Maybe Monday’s post I should share an updated word count.
As you can see this shows the number of words written altogether, the daily word count and my goal, buy a daily goal and the goal from Thursday. It also shows how far you have come in your particular project. So if you are using a program like Plottr and the template for writing a novel, and it says you should be at 4% when you introduce your character you can see what percentage of the novel you’ve written and see if you are meeting those goals as well. Cool huh?
Goal Settings lets you set up your overall goal, in my case I upped it to 80,000 because the average romance novel is 80,000 words and I was getting nervous about hitting certain marks, and I was excited to see that when I put in the goal of 80,000 words it showed where I was what percentage point for example, and according to Plottr, if my two characters are supposed to hint at will they or won’t they, that comes at about the 10-12% mark, so I am good.
Settings also has a calendar so you can mark days off when you know you won’t be writing, or when you don’t think you will be able to write and then if you get a chance later to write that day you can go in and fix it.
