Happy New Year

Happy 2024, it is the beginning of a new year and that, of course, means new goals in writing, blogging, and life. A few years ago when I was till on Facebook I was friends with an investment guru who had a really great idea about manifesting your destiny. He said whatever your goal was, repeat it fifty times a day until you made it a part of your thinking. It works. My goal back when I was friends with him included buying a house, (I closed on my house only a month before my deadline) and getting out of debt (I am still working on that one) so today, January 1st 2024 I am going to share with you some of my goals, and ask that you comment yours.

Let’s cheer each other on, and when the magical date appears, let’s revisit the goal and see how close we are to achieving it.

Rachel’s 24 goals for 2024

  1. Lose Weight, specifically, I want to lose 35 pounds by June 1st, 2024.
  2. Write one new blog post a day through December 31st, 2024. That means by the end of the year I would like to have 365 new blog posts. Now I don’t really want to bog down the writing blog with 365 new posts. I have a couple other blogs I will update as well. My Homesteading Blog, and my Homeschooling Blog, follow them if either interests you.
  3. Cut my screen time on my cell phone down to two hours a week by March 1st, 2024. Now here is where I am horribly addicted to my cell phone and I spend way too much time on it. I have six small children at home, and I don’t want them to be addicted to technology, so I will need to put the phone down.
  4. Read one book about writing and one fiction book a week on September 1st, 2024.
  5. Finish the first draft on my novel, What We Leave Behind, by March 1st 2024
  6. Finish the first draft of my children’s book Lost in Ancient Egypt by April 1st 2024
  7. Write a budget and stick with it by May 1st, 2024.
  8. Begin drafting a true crime novel about the Springfield Missing Women’s case by February 1st, 2024.
  9. Get my freelance writing career re going. By that I mean I want to make equal or greater than I could if I was working for someone else by July 1st, 2024.
  10. Pay off two credit cards and keep them paid off by August 1st, 2024.
  11. Get my house clean and organized by March 1st 2024.
  12. Get the second draft of What We Leave Behind done by May 1st 2024
  13. Complete the second draft of Lost in Ancient Egypt by June 1st, 2024.
  14. Write the first draft of the non-fiction book by September 1st, 2024
  15. Lose another 35 pounds for 70 pounds by December 1st 2024.
  16. Update and optimize my LinkedIn Profile by June 1st, 2024
  17. Read my Bible Daily by December 31st 2024 *We’ve been reading the bible as part of our schooling and I am hoping to make more of a habit for it, and encourage my children to do the same.
  18. Put a fence around the new homestead and get my chicken coop built by May 1st 2024
  19. Clean out the shed from the move by April 1st, 2024
  20. Write 10,000 words a day by September 1st, 2024.
  21. Walk 10,000 steps a day by September 1st, 2024.
  22. Organize my classroom by August 1st, 2024
  23. Drink 80 oz of water a day by April 1st, 2024.
  24. Plan my garden by February 1st, 2024.

As you can see, not all of my goals are writing related. Do you think you can come up with 24 writing related goals? I probably could come up with twenty-four goals specific to writing, but I wanted to share some of my non writing goals with you.

If you’ll notice, I made my goals as specific as I could and gave them an end by dates. Now the trick is to read through this list fifty times a day as I work towards achieving the goals. I hand wrote them down so that I could work on that pesky number three goal because if I am going to be writing, then I don’t need to be reading additionally and adding to my screen time.

If you have set some goals this new year, please share them with me, and if you want to follow my other blogs. I cannot wait to see what this year has in store.
